Dine out for Haiti Relief
Through Feb. 11th, 2010
A number of area restaurants are conducting a Dine-Out for Haiti relief on Thursday, February 11th. 10 percent of sales for that day at participating restaurants will go to the Red Cross for the Haiti relief effort. Participating restaurants include Doc Chey’s Noodle House, Barley’s Taproom, Mamacitas and the Corner Kitchen.   For more information, or for other participating restaurants contact Jacquelyn at Doc Chey’s at 252-8220.
 
Downtown Asheville Concerts
Through August 31, 2010
Two of Asheville’s Premiere Summertime musical events will be featured again in 2010. SHINDIG ON THE GREEN will take place during most Saturday nights in July, August and the first weekend in September. SHINDIG will take place on the new Bascom Lamar Lunsford stage at Pack Square Park downtown and will feature bluegrass and ballads, clogging and other forms of entertainment. It’s free and open to the public.   The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival takes place at Diana Wortham Theatre Thursday-Saturday, August 5th through 7th. Preventive Care for Haiti Relief Volunteers

If you are planning to help with the relief efforts in Haiti, please check with the Buncombe County Health Department before going. There are specific vaccines and medications you should have to protect your health. Call the Foreign Travel Clinic of the Buncombe County Health Department at 250-5096 and make and appointment. Be aware it takes about two weeks to have full immunity from most preventable diseases in Haiti. The Health Department can also help you determine the proper supplies you should take along with you.
 
Western Carolina University School of Nursing

There will be an Open House for the Western Carolina School of Nursing on Saturday, January 30th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College ENKA campus. Prospective nursing students to will have an opportunity to learn about admissions requirements, course prerequisites and tuition costs, plus meet representatives of the various nursing programs. The open house will be on the second floor in the Haynes Conference Center. Bi-Lo Charities Classic

Every year the BI-LO Charity Classic raises money for families and children in need.  And this year you can help. YWCA of Asheville

Mars Hill College

The Mars Hill College Athletic Department is collecting donations for the American Red Cross to help with the disaster in Haiti. One hundred percent of donations will go to this effort and will be collected during all Mars Hill College Basketball games at Stanford Arena.   The goal is to raise two thousand dollars. People wanting to help, but can’t attend the games can mail checks to Head Women’s basketball coach Jen Nance....100 Athletic Street, Mars Hill, NC 28754.   Please designate all checks to Haiti Relief effort.
 
First Congregational Church of Christ, Hendersonville

Share His Hope 2010

Share His Hope 2010 is a regional orphan care conference hosted by Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church in Asheville, NC on March 19-20. There will be information and training for individuals and churches to expand their understanding of what orphan care ministry is. Registration is

Carolina Cinemas Haiti Relief

Carolina Cinemas is collecting donations for Haitian relief efforts and is Matching those donations received from theatre patrons. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army. The collection effort will continue until the Oscar Party Haitian Relief Benefit planned for March 7th.   For more information contact Lauri Nichols at 337-2828.
 
First Baptist Church of Black Mountain
