A study by NSF International revealed these six are the most contaminated items in the kitchen:
1. The vegetable drawer
2. The meat drawer
3. The rubber seal under the blender blade
4. The can opener
5. The rubber spatula
6. The rubber-sealed food storage containers
The study found E. coli bacteria on 25% of the kitchen items tested . . . salmonella on 25% . . . listeria on 10% . . . and yeast and mold on 100%.
So how do you avoid potentially contaminating your food? CLEAN more carefully. That means washing things like the blender base and the rubber gasket, not just the blender container . . . or running your refrigerator drawers through the dishwasher.
