Big Sisters needed! Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for women to share outings twice a month with girls, ages 6 to 14, from single-parent homes. Activities are free or low-cost, such as sports, local attractions, arts/ crafts, etc. We offer free tickets to events and discounts at various businesses. Buncombe County Pools will open to the public on Weekends beginning Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 25. The pools will be open for the season when schools are out for summer break and will remain open daily until school begins in August.
Pool hours:
Monday – Friday (Noon – 5:45 p.m.)
Saturday (11 a.m. – 6:45 p.m.)
Sunday (1 – 6:45 p.m.)
The cost to swim is $3.00 per person. Discount passes are available at all pools: 10 visits for $25.00 or 25 visits for $50.00

Asheville GreenWorks is a volunteer-based organization working to achieve a clean and green Asheville and Buncombe County through community organizing, educating and environmental stewardship. On Saturday May 25th from 10am to 5pm in the Sears Asheville Mall front parking lot, our volunteers and sponsors will present Tire Amnesty Day and will be ready to accept tires 10 tires on or off rim at no charge from residents of Buncombe County. Please bring along valid ID or your most recent water bill showing that you’re a Buncombe County resident. This free event has been made possible through the generosity of the Wal-Mart Foundation. If you’re an area business and you need to dispose of tires, please contact our offices for more information. 828-254-1776 The first 50 cars to drop off tires will receive a free 8X10 blue tarp courtesy of NCDOT’s Swat-A-Litterbug program. Our volunteers and sponsors will be standing by to help you unload your tires. *Tires collected will be properly recycled in Concord NC by Liberty Tire Recycling**
